I am a commuter who travels 13 miles to work most days. During most of the year this requires lights on my bicycle. I have used a number of bicycle lights over the years from cheap to fairly expensive and was excited about the MiNewt Mini.350 USB Plus I purchased just a month ago. I have never used a good LED light before. I have had many cheap LED lights, most of which had poor designs for the mounting.
I was a little nervous about the MiNewt Mini.350 USB Plus mounting as it mounts using one of three rubber type straps and as it turns out, I had cause to be nervous. The light comes with three straps (Large, Medium and Small). Both of my bikes have nearly identical bars on them so I figured switching the light from one to the other would not be an issue. The large strap was too big and would not hold the light in place but the medium strap held just fine, that is until a couple days ago when I had a flat on the bike it was on and decided to switch the light to the other bike. I have switched the light no more than six times during the last month, and probably only four. As I tried putting it on the other bike the strap broke leaving me with no usable strap to mount the light. OK, that was a bummer. BUT, don't fear! I called Nite Rider support and they are sending replacement o-rings! I'll update the review as to how quickly they show up and how they last. But this was good customer service!
OK, so the mounting is an issue, what about the light itself? I love the light! It provides more than enough light to bike by, even in total darkness (I live in a rural area and on mornings with clouds it is very dark). I would like to see a wider cone of light for those cars approaching from the sides, but for cars approaching from the front, this light lets them know you are there and is very visible. I even had one car flash me the brights while I had the light on the dim setting and aimed down at the road. The flash mode is also very noticeable and I recommend it for city biking, if you can stand it. There is a light on the on/off/mode button that glows green (on one side of the button) when charged and red (on the other side) when nearing the end of the charge. The only problem is that I am color blind and can't see the red vs. green, so I just pay attention to which side the button light is on.
I have not used the helmet option yet, but may try and let you know. I'll keep you up to date.
